Zachary Berger Associates to Pursue Permaculture Design Certification in 2018

We are pleased to announce that the team at Zachary Berger Associates is currently pursuing Permaculture Design Certification through the University of New Hampshire!

The program consists of three separate courses that are scheduled to last from January 2nd to October 19th. Design associate Ronny is no stranger to the program’s professor, Lauren Chase-Rowell. In college, he studied her Sustainable Landscapes course where he learned the basic foundation of permaculture principles. Lauren is one of the region’s most respected educators of permaculture practice.

What is permaculture? Permaculture’s prime directive involves human recognition of its own existence and encourages responsibility of our current actions in a timely manner.

Originally coined by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren, the definition continues to evolve. In a nutshell, permaculture is a concept that allows humans to carefully form systems that support life within the biosphere. Permaculture is meant to be used in several areas of human life: energy, technology, financial systems, etc.

Permaculture design certification will allow Zachary Berger Associates to confidently offer, design and maintain these complex systems. Our hope is that with continued public awareness of the ever-changing landscape, permaculture will be the norm when it comes to client requests. Accepting responsibility as designers, we’ll be an integral part in how our clients view their outdoor spaces. Environments that place care of the earth, care of others and place limits on consumption are values that will allow our business and the landscapes we design, to thrive for years to come.

We will surely keep you all updated on the progress of our course experience and eventual completion. This permaculture design certification is a crucial step in the process of Zachary Berger Associates becomming an ecologically-complete landscape design consulting firm by late 2018. We hope you’ll take advantage and better your landscape, community and world.
