A treasured space bordering both salt marsh and rocky beach habitat, Zachary Berger Associates was commissioned to develop master land use plans for a private residence above Horseshoe Cove on the southern Maine coast. We worked closely with local architect, Thom Rousselle on the layout and design of the driveway approach, multi-level terraces including an outdoor kitchen + a large cedar pergola, tree preservation and perimeter dry-stacked stonewalls integrated with custom wood privacy fencing. Project challenges included an abundance of subterranean and above-ground granite ledge, state and municipal shoreland set-back requirements, dramatic grade changes and managing workflows with multiple designers and contractor teams. Native plants, sweeps of organic lawn, and natural stone were all integrated with the ledge and natural marsh habitat. Installed by Brad Meserve, Joe Lindsey, Dan Gogan and Walpole Outdoors. Continued landscape stewardship by Brad Meserve and Distinctive Gardening
